Jose Riveiro on his way out of Al Ahly, Sundowns to pounce?

Posted on August 30, 2025

Jose Riveiro’s potential final match with Al Ahly ended in a 2-0 defeat to Pyramids on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils suffered their first defeat of the season and found themselves 12th place in the league standings of the Egyptian Premier League after four matches.

The 49-year-old Spanish coach took over at Al Ahly in June after three successful years with Orlando Pirates. He won five trophies with the Buccaneers and took them to the CAF Champions League semi-finals last season.

After his three year contract come to an end, the Spaniard opted not to renew and left to join the Egyptian giants.

Can Jose Riveiro survive the chop?

According to KingFut, Riveiro is likely to leave the club before the summer break. He was tasked with improving the team following their disappointing 2024/25 CAF Champions League campaign.

Will Riveiro survive?
