Stellies Secure A Second MTN8 Final

Posted on August 23, 2025

Stellenbosch FC will face Orlando Pirates in this season’s final of the MTN8 in a repeat of last year’s decider after drawing 1-1 with Sekhukhune United in their semi-final second leg in Polokwane, winning 3-1 on aggregate.

The home side could have taken the lead in the fifth minute after Keletso Makgalwa set up Bradley Grobler who missed the target with his right foot. Grobler missed two other chances in the half as well.

It was Mthetheleli Mthiyani who opened the scoring for the visitors from range in the 22nd minute. Devin Titus could have doubled the lead in the 36th minute but that shot was saved by Renaldo Leaner.

There was also an opportunity for Andre De Jong before the break but his attempt went wide leaving his side with the narrow lead at the break.

There were no changes from both sides at the start of the second stanza and seven minutes in, it was Stellies with a shot from Henri Stanic but it over the bar.

Leaner was called to make a save in the 55th minute a long range shot by Ibraheem Jabaar. Babina Noko pulled one back through Siphesihle Mkhize in the 66th minute from a Tsepo Matsimbi cross.

Grobler missed another chance to bring his side back in the game shooting over the bar in the 73rd minute.

The game ended 1-1 with Steve Barker’s  charges marching into the final.
