Kaizer Chiefs have started the season like a house on fire, claiming nine points from a possible nine thus far.
Chiefs have won all three of their first three games, scoring four goals while keeping three clean sheets too.
Chiefs with a good start
During this run, Chiefs have claimed a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in their opener in Cape Town. They have since followed that up with 1-0 wins over Polokwane City and Richards Bay FC respectively. They have managed these victories without their head coach Nasreddine Nabi being in the dug out, making the feat more impressive.
Nabi had to leave South Africa on the eve of Chiefs’ opener, due to a serious incident involving his wife. In his absence the team has been left in the capable hands of his two assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze. Speaking after their match against Richards Bay, Youssef seemed to confirm it was their last time in charge.
Nabi returning just in time to face Sundowns?
Quizzed by journalists at the post-match press conference, Youssef revealed that Nabi is expected back at Chiefs next week. Should things work out accordingly, that will mean the Tunisian mentor will be back just in time to takeover the reins against Mamelodi Sundowns. It will then be interesting to see how much time he would’ve had to analyse the opposition prior to the game.
Both Yourself and Kaze have mentioned, however, that Nabi has been kept abreast with their decisions. They both maintain that he has remained of big influence to current proceedings, as well as trusting the duo. Chiefs fans will be waiting with bated breath to see if anything changes ahead of the Sundowns fixture.
