Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict Vilakazi has questioned the lack of respect he believes Relebohile Mofokeng is shown over new signing Oswin Appollis.
Mofokeng who was the starlet of the side in the last two seasons has featured in all of Pirates’ matches so far this season, though he was started off the bench in one of the four encounters and has been somewhat a shadow of himself so far this term.
‘Tso’ feels that the way the Buccaneers played in the MTN8 semi-final first leg draw against Mamelodi Sundowns compromised the wing play which then let to the 20-year-old having to switch from the flanks to play as a 10, a position Tso thinks doesn’t get the best out of the player.
The former Pirates captain also feels that Mofokeng has proven himself as he is currently compromised by the arrival and usage of Appollis adding that the current situation has potential to affect the player’s confidence and spill into the rest of the team.
“Sometimes it needs to go with respect for each other, and I think from the side of the team they don’t show respect to the boy,” said Tso on iDiski TV.
“With all the seasons that this boy has been playing at Pirates, he’s been doing very well creating chances, scoring and where it matters most he rises to the occasion. And now you buy somebody from somewhere and now you need to compromise him I don’t think they are showing respect to him. Why isn’t Appollis sitting on the bench and waiting until Mofokeng is off to get his time to play?
“That would show that we respect you boy we know what you can do because you have done it before, and you can continue until the day we see Mofokeng is off form. That would be a chance for Appollis to come in and get his chance again.
“But in this manner, it’s going to kill the spirit of the boy, and such things make the team to be disorganised because no one has confidence in the position they are playing, whether you are doing well or not you know if they decide to put you out, they will put you out.”
