Did Kaizer Chiefs just found their new GOAT?

Posted on August 18, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have found a solid defender in Aden McCarthy after the youngster earned himself a place in the starting eleven.

In the two matches Amakhosi played, the 23-year-old centre-back earned back-to-back Man of the Match awards. The team has won their opening two games so far and currently top the Betway Premiership.

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Morgan Gould has praised McCarthy for taking his opportunity and cementing his place in the starting eleven.

“Aden McCarthy is the epitome of patience; delay is not denial. He has been patient and waiting for his opportunity,” Gould told FARPost.

“He’s yet to unleash the Aden that we’ll all love watching, and I just give his parents credit because he comes from a footballing background and was born out of Chiefs,” he added.

McCarthy impresses at Kaizer Chiefs

“Everyone in the family stuck with him when people were saying Aden must go, and the patience is paying off. He is a player of note; not only is he the son of Fabian McCarthy, but he is a great player in his own right,” Gould added.

“I’m impressed with how he’s taking the pressure of playing for Kaizer Chiefs; all eyes are on him, but he’s a humble human being.”

Kaizer Chiefs will play their next match against Richards Bay on Tuesday evening. Kick off is for 19:30 at the FNB Stadium.

Can Aden McCarthy become a great at the club?
