Kaizer Chiefs Player Ratings: Who FIRED, who FLOPPED

Kaizer Chiefs took on Stellenbosch FC in their opening Betway Premiership fixture.

Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC 2-0 to get their Betway Premiership campaign off to a winning start.

So, some Amakhosi players put in stand-out performances. Whilst, others were slightly underwhelming.

WHO FIRED FOR CHIEFS

Brandon Peterson – 8.5

Peterson had one of his best performances in years. The Amakhosi shotstopper was solid in goal producing a few solid saves. Also, his positioning and distribution was top-knotch. He has certainly put his hand up for selection as Chiefs’ potential first-choice goalkeeper this season.

Nkonsigiphile Ngcobo – 8/10

Ngcobo is in top form for Amakhosi. He continued on his run off with a shining display against Stellies. Ngcobo’s magnifescent free kick was the cherry on top of a complete performance in the Chief midfield. His passing was accurate and he was calm and composed on the ball. He kept defenders guessing and controlled the midfield.

Thabo Cele 7.5/10

Cele and Ngcobo are forming something special in the Amakhosi midfield. Their link up play was smooth, professional and clean. Cele dominated the space in the midfield. He knew when to play it back or when to link to Ngcobo and to counter.

Aden McCarthy – 7.5/10

McCarthy selection came as a surprise but he didn’t disappoint. In fact, McCarthy was excellent. The Amakhosi defender was solid in the air and astute at the heart of defence. He played with the calm composure of a veteran and put in some solid tackles.

WHO FLOPPED FOR AMAKHOSI

Naledi Hlongwane – 6

Hlongwane had a below-par outing for Chiefs. He did not offer much of a threat on attack and seemed overwhelmed by his Betway Premiership debut.

Wandile Duba – 6

Duba was not at his usual best against Stellies. The skilful forward did not beat defenders or find much space and was shut down by the Stellenbosch defence.
