Kaizer Chiefs set to make bold technical team change

Kaizer Chiefs could soon unveil a significant addition to their technical team as part of Nasreddine Nabi’s sweeping rebuild at Naturena. Highly respected youth coach Vela Khumalo has emerged as a strong candidate to join the senior setup, in a move that could signal a deeper commitment to homegrown expertise.

A source revealed that management is actively discussing Khumalo’s promotion from the youth structures to the senior technical bench. The former national youth team coach, known for his eye for talent and tactical sharpness, may become a vital part of Nabi’s inner circle as Amakhosi look to reignite their glory days.

“It’s something that’s been talked about internally. Vela is highly respected at the club and within South African football. He’s someone who knows the Chiefs culture well and has achieved a lot with national junior teams,” the source said.

Track record on success and Chiefs development

Khumalo has guided South African youth sides to numerous regional and continental titles, earning a reputation as one of the country’s most effective talent developers. His deep understanding of the Chiefs DNA and success at nurturing young players perfectly aligns with Nabi’s vision for a rejuvenated and competitive Amakhosi squad.

The Tunisian tactician has already begun reshaping the club since his arrival, ending a decade-long wait for silverware with last season’s Nedbank Cup triumph. Now, with an eye on long-term success. He looks set to bolster his technical team with individuals who understand the local landscape. And share his drive to return Chiefs to the pinnacle of South African football.

Elevating Khumalo would showcase the club’s faith in its internal structures and commitment to continuity. Especially with youth development being a cornerstone of the current rebuild. The move would also underline Chiefs’ belief in the quality of South African coaches. At a time when pressure mounts for the club to deliver both on and off the field.

Naturena buzzing over possible Khumalo promotion

Excitement is already building behind the scenes at Naturena as talk of Khumalo’s promotion gains momentum. His track record of producing players who thrive at senior level. And adds to the belief that his presence could bring fresh energy and perspective to the first team.

If Chiefs confirm the appointment, it would mark a bold and calculated decision to lean on proven local knowledge in pursuit of their return to the summit of South African football.
