Newly appointed Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed why he joined the Port Elizabeth-based DStv Premiership side following his stint at Kaizer Chiefs.

Hunt was announced as new Chippa coach on Wednesday, in a move which surprised many in the South African football fraternity.

Hunt becomes the fifth coach of Chippa since the beginning of last season and said he joined Chippa because he wants to bring success to the Eastern Cape.

“I see this as a massive challenge, and one that really excites me,” said Hunt.

“The Eastern Cape as a region is where so many fantastic South African sportsmen and women hail from and this area certainly deserves a successful Football Club that the locals can be proud of.

“The facilities here are outstanding and the passion of the people, both in the province and at the club is amazing. I can’t wait to start working again.”

Chippa also confirmed that Hunt is also excited by the chairman Chippa Mpengesi’s vision and desire for success and thanked the Mayor and Municipality for the support in rebuilding the team.

Hunt’s new club also confirmed that Roy Limongelli who was with him at Bidvest Wits will “fulfil an administrative role” at the club, while his assistants are yet to be announced.
