FIFA ask Kaizer Chiefs to pay R3 million?

It seems like FIFA will advise Kaizer Chiefs to pay R1.5 million each in development compensation for Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, the two promising players developed by Cape Town Spurs, according to FIFA regulations.

FIFA’s development compensation framework requires clubs to compensate those responsible for a player’s training between the ages of 12 and 21, particularly when the player signs their first professional contract or moves clubs before turning 23.

According to this latest local report, Kaizer Chiefs are said to be willing to reach this agreement.

As reported in previous weeks, Amakhosi signed the duo on free deals due to Spurs’ relegation from the National First Division to the ABC Motsepe League.

Spurs, one of South Africa’s most respected youth academies, responded by formally lodging a claim with the South African Football Association (SAFA), seeking compensation for the time and resources invested in grooming the two players.

“You know, Kaizer Chiefs are willing to follow the rules and do the right thing by the book,” a source told Soccer Laduma. “That’s why it’s believed that they are expected to pay R1.5 million for each player, which means R3 million for the two players.

“You remember the same case happened between Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy involving Puso Dithejane when he left Chiefs. Galaxy had to pay that development compensation fee, and that’s what they could be expected to pay Spurs according to FIFA rules, ” the source added.
