Maduka Opens Up On Royal AM Troubles

Magesi FC head coach John Maduka has opened up on the troubles at his former side Royal AM saying he doesn’t wish any of it to happen to other people.

The club went under the care of curatorship because of the chairlady Shauwn Mkhize’s troubles with the Tax man. Royal AM didn’t play any matches in the second round of the 2024/25 season due to the club not being able to fulfil its financial responsibilities to staff and players. The outcome was the club being expelled from the league as they couldn’t honour matches.

Maduka has since found a new home in Limpopo with Dikwena Tṧa Meetsi and the coach spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 213 of the newspaper explaining some of the difficult moments of that period.

“Oh, very, very difficult,” Maduka told iDiski Times.

“Let me be honest with you, very difficult. You know you don’t want anything like that to happen to any soccer player, coach, supporters or the management, because, as a coach now, you’re training the team, but you’re still not going to play the games. You don’t know what’s going to happen next. So, very difficult, because you don’t know how to motivate them, where do you start? How do you start?

“You know, there’s uncertainty, you’re not sure what’s going to happen. It’s a very, very, very difficult thing. I don’t think I can wish for any team to go through that, because players went through difficult times, the technical team went through difficult times. Management as well went through difficult times; the supporters, you know, everyone that was around the team went through very, very difficult times.

“I don’t think it’s something that you can wish for anyone to ever go through.”
