Durban City are set to land a surprise signing of highly-rated Stellenbosch midfielder Kyle Jurgens ahead of the new season.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship winners have been active in the market with a major squad overhaul since their promotion to the top-flight, led by new head coach Gavin Hunt.
Darren Keet, Fredrick Asare, Trevor Brooklyn Poggenpoel, and Liam de Kock have all been unveiled while Thulani Hlatshwayo, Haashim Domingo and Thabo Nodada are expected to be among the new confirmed additions.
However, the club has managed to secure the 21-year-old on loan with an option to buy, for the player who attracted the interest of Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns in recent months – and was touted as the next breakout star at the Cape Winelands outfit.
It’s been suggest the players’ camp looked to force the move away from the club, seeking regular starts for the player, although Stellenbosch were reluctant to let the player depart ahead of the new season.
Jurgens racked up 50 appearances for the club since earning promotion to the first team as a teenager, primarily featuring as a right-back.
