New season, doubts grow, deal delayed

As the new season edges closer, uncertainty is growing around Kaizer Chiefs’ transfer dealings and overall squad readiness.

After a trophy-winning campaign that ended a decade-long drought, expectations are (as always) high for Amakhosi, but recent developments have left fans and insiders uneasy.

One of the club’s most talked-about potential signings, Etiosa Ighodaro, has yet to be finalised, with the deal reportedly delayed due to last-minute negotiations and administrative holdups. While Chiefs remain interested, sources close to the matter say there is no confirmed contract on the table.

“The talks are still ongoing,” a club insider revealed. “There is optimism, but no guarantee yet. It’s taking longer than expected, and that’s causing some frustration.”

What is needed?

Despite lifting the Nedbank Cup recently, Kaizer Chiefs’ cohesion and tactical sharpness remain a work in progress, sparking questions about whether the team is ready to challenge for major honours again.

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his ambitions but also about the challenges facing the club.

“We need the right players to strengthen the squad. Without that, it will be difficult to sustain success,” Nabi stated after winning the Nedbank Cup. “My focus is on preparing the team, but the management must deliver on promises made regarding reinforcements.”

Who should Kaizer Chiefs sign?
