Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng, Rayners, Saleng, Nkota

Relebohile Mofokeng’s future at Orlando Pirates remains a hot topic, with interest from Europe intensifying. PSV Eindhoven appear to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature, with sources confirming the Dutch giants are pushing for a deal worth more than R100 million.

“R100 million is like a round figure. It’s more than that,” a source explained. “The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million.”

Although the club had initially enquired about Iqraam Rayners, their focus has now shifted entirely to Mofokeng. The 20-year-old scored in Pirates’ 2-0 win over Granada, possibly bidding farewell to the club on a high note. Scouts from the Netherlands have reportedly been working behind the scenes to finalise the move.

Surprise exits

If Mofokeng departs, he will follow a growing list of exits from the Buccaneers camp. One of the most surprising moves came from Monnapule Saleng, who has joined Orbit College. The winger hasn’t featured in the PSL since November last year and now returns to his former club with renewed focus.

“I am very happy to be back home,” Saleng said. “Going back to Orbit after a great campaign they had—and that I could come back—makes me happy. Being home is something that brings happiness.”

Meanwhile, another departure saw Mohau Nkota exit the Soweto giants as part of the club’s pre-season reshuffle. With over eleven new players coming in, including Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi, Pirates have been one of the busiest clubs this window.

Despite the exits, there’s good news on the leadership front. Veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is set to continue with the club, as confirmed by his agent. Talks regarding a new deal have gone smoothly.
