Orlando Pirates wrapped up their European pre-season tour with a 2-0 win over Spanish side Granada, but attention quickly shifted from the result to Relebohile Mofokeng.
The 20-year-old midfielder scored in the final fixture, potentially marking the end of his Buccaneers journey. Mofokeng is drawing interest from heavyweights across the globe, including Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, Al Ahly, and FC Cincinnati.
“R100 million is like a round figure. It’s more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,” an insider revealed. “You know it’s not exactly what you want that you get, and that’s why they are talking about the R100 million, but it’s believed to be more than that.”
Scouts from the Netherlands are reportedly working closely with PSV recruiters. While the Eredivisie outfit had their eyes on Iqraam Rayners, the club now views Mofokeng as a long-term investment worth pursuing.
Saleng saga over
While one star could be on his way out, Monnapule Saleng has returned to Orbit College in a surprising move that has sparked debates among supporters.
“I am very happy to be back home,” said Saleng. “I thank God for giving me strength and aligning me with a return to Orbit. Because being home is something that brings happiness.”
Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is staying put. Contract talks have gone well, confirmed his agent, Sizwe Ntshangase.
“Our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties. It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement.”
All this comes as the Soweto giants enjoy one of their most active transfer windows in recent years, already adding more than eleven players, including exciting attacker Oswin Appollis, who seems to be settling in nicely.
