Kaizer Chiefs dropped points against Polokwane City, and they won’t want to repeat that against Durban City. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the clash with Orlando Pirates in action on Thursday.
Kaizer Chiefs remain unbeaten
The Glamour Boys are now unbeaten in their first six outings, winning three and drawing the other three after Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate with Polokwane City. Lebo Maboe scored the Chiefs goal from a Pule Mmodi assist. Points away to Richards Bay and City, as well as a draw at home against Sundowns, aren’t terrible results in isolation. However, new boss Fernando Da Cruz will want to turn single points into three in these instances. Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa. Arrows vs Chiefs is on Sunday, 20 September at 15:00.
Chiefs remain in the hunt near the summit
Sundowns remain top with 20 points after eight matches. Pirates are second with 13 points, but have three games in hand on the Brazilians. AmaZulu’s impressive start sees them third on 13 points after six games, while Chiefs sit fourth with 12 points after six outings.
How will Chiefs fare against Golden Arrows?
Although Arrows have been difficult to beat this season, they’ve struggled for fluency, drawing four of their six matches. It could be another frustrating afternoon for Chiefs, who might end up dropping more points here.
What about the champions, Orlando Pirates?
The defending champions had time off from domestic affairs with a CAF Champions League qualifying clash with La Cure Waves FC. The Sea Robbers came from a goal down to win 3-1 thanks to strikes from Kabelo Kgositsile, Kamohelo Sebelebele and Yanela Mbuthuma. Pirates face Durban City in the league on Thursday, 17 September. Kickoff is at 19:30. 24-year-old Mbuthuma has scored three goals in his last three outings.
