Relebohile Mofokeng to leave Belgium?
Scintillating form in the 2025-26 season earned Relebohile Mofokeng a high-profile move to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. He followed Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi out of the club, although Nkota has ironically returned on loan. The Pirates academy has churned out some gems and earned big money from their sales. Mofokeng scored 10 goals and assisted eight times in 27 league outings last term. For Union SG, he’s got two goals in four Jupiter Pro League outings in 2026-27, and he also scored the clinching penalty in a shootout win over Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup final in July. Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett expects Mofokeng’s stay in Belgium to be short.
Orlando Pirates to consider another big sale
According to widespread reports, Pirates’ resolve will be tested regarding Bafana star Oswin Appollis. An unnamed foreign club wants to sign the 25-year-old winger, and if the price is right, the board will have to sanction a sale. The arrival of Mohau Nkota on loan could provide some consolation for fans, but would the 21-year-old be able to hit the ground running and replicate Appollis’ output? He joined in July 2025 and has already become integral to the cause, chipping in with nine goals and six assists in 30 league outings last term. Availability is one of the most important traits a player can possess.
What’s next for the Buccaneers?
The Sea Robbers drew 0-0 with Mauritian side La Cure Waves FC in the first leg of a CAF Champions League qualifier. The second leg is on Saturday, 12 September. The defending South African champions turn their attention back to league action against Durban City on 17 September.
