Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Jasond González appears to be enjoying life in China after making a sensational start to his career with Nantong Zhiyun.
The 27-year-old has scored seven goals in seven matches since joining the Chinese club, adding one assist to his impressive record, according to Transfermarkt.
González joined Kaizer Chiefs during the 2023/24 season with plenty of expectations on his shoulders. However, the Colombian struggled badly in South Africa, failing to score in the 13 matches he played for Amakhosi.
His difficult spell saw him labelled one of the flops of the season. González arrived at Chiefs with a reputation as a promising striker but was unable to reproduce his previous form under then-coach Molefi Ntseki.
He was often left on the bench and struggled to make an impact when introduced. After his brief stay at Naturena, González was released and eventually moved to Bolivian side Always Ready FC.

The striker joined Nantong Zhiyun in July 2026, moving to the China League One, and has wasted little time showing his goalscoring ability.
His seven goals in seven appearances will certainly frustrate some Kaizer Chiefs supporters, particularly those who remember the hype surrounding his arrival and hoped he could become a reliable goalscorer for the club.
González’s revival also raises questions about whether he was genuinely a poor striker or simply a bad fit for Kaizer Chiefs at the time.
Interestingly, another Colombian striker has enjoyed considerably more success in South Africa.
Brayan León joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January and has quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer, already scoring more than 15 goals during his first eight months in the country.
González’s remarkable start in China suggests there was always a capable striker in there. Perhaps Kaizer Chiefs simply failed to get the best out of him.
His success in China is a reminder that a player’s failure at one club does not necessarily mean he lacks the quality to succeed elsewhere.
