
Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star midfielder Teboho Mokoena was recently honoured by the Free State government.
On 15 August, Free State MEC for Sports Zanele Sifuba hosted the awards ceremony to honour the outstanding stars from the province.
And Mokoena was among the recipients from the Free State province for his outstanding performances for both club and country.
He recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup where he also scored a crucial penalty in the 1-1 draw against Czech Republic.
Mokoena, born and bred in Bethlehem, took to social media to express his delight and appreciation for the award.

“Honoured to receive an Excellence Award from the Free State MEC. Grateful for where I come from and excited for what’s still ahead,” wrote Mokoena on his social media platforms.

WHAT ARE MOKOENA’S NUMBERS?
The 29-year-old has represented both Sundowns and Bafana Bafana with pride since his move from the now defunct SuperSport United.
Mokoena has featured in 181 competitive matches for Brazilians, scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists.
At international level, the midfield anchor has won 54 caps with Bafana Bafana with 10 goals to his name.
