The Orlando Pirates star international has already featured in three different positions across his first four competitive matches. He has played at right back, right wing and center forward.
GHAMPANI LUNGU MAKES HIS MARK AT ORLANDO PIRATES
Lungu made his senior debut at right-back during Orlando Pirates’ 2-0 victory over Milford FC in the opening Betway Premiership fixture.
He kept the same position against Durban City in the MTN8 quarter-final. That match produced his first major moment in the famous black and white jersey.
Lungu pushed forward in the 120th minute and scored a dramatic extra-time winner to seal a 2-1 victory for the Sea Robbers. The Zambian then moved further forward for the next two matches.
He played as a right-winger against AmaZulu and Chippa United, using his pace and direct running to trouble opposition defenders.
His performance against Chippa United showed just how flexible he can be.
FROM RIGHT-WINGER TO STRIKER
Lungu started the match on the right flank before moving into a striker role for the final 15 minutes. The tactical change immediately paid off.
The Orlando Pirates attacker received the ball inside the box, turned brilliantly and smashed home the opening goal in the Buccaneers’ convincing 3-0 victory.
That goal also opened his account for the club in the Betway Premiership. In just four competitive matches, Lungu has now played at right-back, right-winger and striker.
His ability to perform in different positions gives the Orlando Pirates technical team another valuable tactical option.
The versatility also reflects a career built on adaptability. After making his name in Zambia, Lungu moved to the South African top flight, where he continued developing his positional intelligence and finishing ability.
Now, Orlando Pirates have a player who can contribute at both ends of the pitch.
And if his opening matches are anything to go by, Ghampani Lungu could become one of the Buccaneers’ most valuable utility players this season.
