Sundowns in early talks with FC Copenhagen over Bafana star

Mamelodi Sundowns are in early talks with Danish giants FC Copenhagen over the possible transfer of Thapelo Maseko.

Maseko is back at Chloorkop following a successful loan stint with Cypriot outfit AEL Limassol.

And while AEL Limassol wanted to make Maseko’s deal permanent upon the expiry of his loan deal, the two clubs could not agree terms.

Now, The South African can exclusively reveal that Sundowns have opened talks with FC Copenhagen.

The negotiations, however, are still in their early stages, and it has taken more than two weeks for the Brazilians to even entertain FC Copenhagen.

Sundowns are open to sell the speedy attacker as he is deemed surplus to requirements, but they don’t want to do business with any of the PSL clubs.

And the fact that it has taken weeks for Sundowns to listen to offers, has left the Bafana Bafana star even more frustrated.

Maseko could become only a fourth South African-born player to play for FC Copenhagen should the proposed deal go through.

Legendary striker Sibusiso Zuma was the first to don the jersey in 2001 after he signed for the club from Orlando Pirates.

Another former Bafana Bafana international in Elrio van Heerden then followed in his footsteps in 2002.

The last South African player to join and feature for FC Copenhagen was Maseko’s teammate at AEL Limassol, Luther Singh in 2021.
