According to SABC Sport, FIFA confirmed the sanction in a letter dated 5 August after Chippa United failed to comply with an earlier ruling in the player’s favour. The ban comes at a difficult time as the Eastern Cape club continue preparing for the new season.
ROLAND SANOU DISPUTE CONTINUES
Sanou joined Chippa United during the 2023/24 campaign and made 12 appearances before his contract was terminated. The Burkina Faso international later took the matter to FIFA, which ordered the club to compensate him following the contractual dispute.
However, the world governing body says Chippa United have not honoured the payment agreement. As a result, FIFA has imposed an immediate registration ban.
The latest sanction prevents the club from registering new players both domestically and internationally.
CHIPPA UNITED FACE TRANSFER BLOW
According to FIFA, the ban will remain in place until Chippa United settle the outstanding amount owed to Sanou.
If the debt remains unpaid, the sanction could stay in force for a maximum of three consecutive registration periods.
The transfer ban is another major setback for Chippa United, who are looking to strengthen their squad during the current transfer window. Unless the club clears the outstanding debt, any new signings will be unable to represent the Chilli Boys in official competitions.
In the meantime the club have signed five players in the current window. The list includes Brian Bwire (Polokwane City), Imraan Jones (Highbury), Ntuthuko Mlotshwa (Lerumo Lions), Stanley Nwabali, Obakhe Tshaya (Hope FC).
