Chiefs coach tells two players they’re not in his plans
Chiefs will sell Congolese wide attacker Glody Lilepo ahead of the new campaign. Meanwhile, coach Da Cruz confirmed that Thabo Cele is not part of his immediate plans. This almost guarantees that the club will pursue a wide attacker and a box-to-box midfielder.
Phili could replace Lilepo at Kaizer Chiefs
Stellenbosch winger Langelihle Phili remains near the top of Chiefs’ transfer wish list. The Glamour Boys could put together a player-plus-cash package to lure the 21-year-old to Naturena. Ashley du Preez could be the makeweight. Pacey, diminutive star Phili got seven goals in 27 league outings last term. Glody Lilepo could be on the way out for big money.
Nkgwesa is ready for minutes in the Kaizer Chiefs team
Kabelo Nkgwesa was given a run-out in Chiefs’ first friendly match of the tour, a 1-1 draw against Scottish giants Rangers. After getting a taste of first-team football, the 19-year-old left-back, nicknamed ‘Festival’, wants more.
“I got to play 20 minutes in the first match and I got a sense of the difference in how they play compared to us, especially their physicality and endurance, which allowed them to finish stronger, so it is important that we earmark that as an area where we can improve,” he admitted, adding, “Also, it’s good to learn about game management, when to pass, the weight of the pass. Those seemingly small things can make a big difference in a match situation.”
