Bafana Bafana’s historic FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign has sparked growing interest in several Orlando Pirates players from clubs across Europe.
Relebohile Mofokeng became the first Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana star to secure a move abroad after FIFA World Cup 2026 after completing his transfer to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
However, he is not the only Buccaneers attacker reportedly attracting European interest. Reports have linked both Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa with moves to Portugal. Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have reportedly joined Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the race to sign Thabang Matuludi.
ORLANDO PIRATES ATTACKERS ATTRACT REPORTED INTEREST FROM PORTUGAL
As reported on The South African, Portuguese giants FC Porto have tabled a R74 million offer for Appollis following his performances at FIFA World Cup 2026.
If the reported move materialises, Appollis would follow in the footsteps of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy. The Kenyan national team coach famously won the UEFA Champions League with Porto in 2004 under José Mourinho.
The reported fee is also higher than the one linked to Mofokeng’s move to Belgium. If completed at that value, it could become the biggest sale in Orlando Pirates and PSL history.
Meanwhile, reports have also linked Evidence Makgopa with Portuguese champions Sporting CP, who are reportedly prepared to offer R94 million for the striker.
At the time of publication, neither Orlando Pirates, the players nor their representatives had confirmed the reported interest.

Orlando Pirates have reportedly joined Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the race to sign Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City.
The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana defender has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the Betway Premiership, with all three clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
Matuludi remains under contract at Polokwane City, and no agreement has been announced. Reports suggest he is aware of the interest, although he has not publicly indicated a preference regarding his future.
According to Transfermarkt, the defender has an estimated market value of more than R22 million.
