Kaizer Chiefs attacker Gaston Sirino is set to join Durban City ahead of the new season.
The 35-year-old Uruguayan winger spent two years at Amakhosi, having joined them as a free agent. Despite a promising start to his Chiefs career, Sirino faded away and was often used as a substitute in the past season.
According to SABC Sport journalist Mazole Molefe, Sirino is close to signing with Durban City and could reunite with ex-coach Khalil Ben Youssef.
“Sirino’s conversation with Chiefs did not yield any fruit, and the player will be moving on. I can reveal today that Gaston Sirino is close to securing a new home, Durban City. They just hired new coach Khalil Ben Youssef and want to reunite with Gaston Sirino.”
“It is almost a done deal, 90 per cent of the finer details concluded with Durban City and he will be unveiled before the start of the season,” Molefe said on a social media post.
Chiefs to part ways with Sirino
Sirino joined Amakhosi on a free transfer and signed a two-year deal in 2024. In the 52 appearances he made for Chiefs, the South American netted five times for the club and provided eight assists.
He struggled for form and consistency, while injuries also did not help his case.
With Chiefs signing young players, it looks less likely that Siriino will stay at the club this coming season. A move to Durban City looks more likely.
