Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the departure of Gaston Sirino after the expiry of his contract. The veteran attacking midfielder becomes the club’s fifth confirmed exit ahead of the new Betway Premiership campaign.
The 34-year-old follows Happy Mashiane, George Matlou, Aden McCarthy, who joined Sabah in Azerbaijan, and Tashreeq Morris through the exit door. Meanwhile, Sirino is expected to join Durban City, although the move is still subject to an official announcement.
KAIZER CHIEFS BID FAREWELL TO GASTON SIRINO
Sirino leaves after making 52 appearances in all competitions for Kaizer Chiefs. During his two-year spell, he scored five goals and registered eight assists while helping the club lift the 2025 Nedbank Cup.
The Uruguayan arrived at Naturena before the 2024/25 season after ending a trophy-laden six-year stay with Mamelodi Sundowns. His experience added quality to the squad as Chiefs rebuilt under a new era.
Confirming the midfielder’s departure, Kaizer Chiefs thanked Sirino for his contribution to the club.
“As Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to Gaston Sirino, the Club would like to express sincere gratitude to Papi for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons,” the club said.
“The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the Club. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena.
“Nos vemos, Papi.”
Before joining Kaizer Chiefs, Sirino enjoyed one of the most successful careers in South African football. He first played professionally in Chile before impressing at Club Bolívar in Bolivia, where his performances earned him a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018.
SIRINO SET FOR DURBAN CITY
Although Kaizer Chiefs have only confirmed his departure, Sirino is expected to continue his career with Betway Premiership side Durban City. The move is understood to be agreed, with an official announcement still awaited.
At Mamelodi Sundowns, Sirino established himself as one of the league’s finest attacking midfielders. He helped the club win seven consecutive league titles, as well as the Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and the African Football League.
His performances also earned him South African citizenship during his time with the Tshwane giants.
With Sirino’s exit now confirmed, Kaizer Chiefs have announced five departures so far ahead of the new season. More squad changes are still expected before the transfer window closes.
