Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Frank Makua has warned his former side against making too many signings during the pre-season.
During the 2025/26 season, Amakhosi made over 10 signings as they finished third in the Betway Premiership.
Despite having a good season, the club decided to part ways with Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze as co-coaches.
With new head coach Fernando Da Cruz having taken over, Makua feels Kaizer Chiefs should not make signings.
“There are still players like Khanyisa Mayo, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Luke Baartman, who were not given enough game-time by the previous coaches. Maybe this new coach will know how to use them properly,” Makua told KickOff.
The former Chiefs star said too many signings will only half youngsters from the youth structures.
“But how are you going to know that if you rush to release them or loan them?
“Bringing in too many new players will delay the progress of players like Vilakazi and Baartman,” Makua said.
Kaizer Chiefs have made two signings
So far, Renaldo Leaner and Thabo Moloisane are the only players Amakhosi have signed this transfer window. With four different competitions still to play locally, Chiefs will need to boost their squad if they are to match rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
A top three finish last season means the Glamour Boys will once again play in the CAF Confederation Cup this coming campaign. In all fairness, Kaizer Chiefs will need to make atleast six more signings to win one or two trophies.
