Orlando Pirates have officially parted ways with 12 players as the club continues its squad rebuild ahead of the new campaign. The departures include seven permanent transfers within South Africa, one overseas switch to Iraq, one major European sale and one player still without a club.
The biggest departure is undoubtedly Relebohile Mofokeng, who completed a move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The gifted attacker became the latest academy graduate to secure a move to Europe after establishing himself as one of the Betway Premiership‘s brightest stars.
Defender Thabiso Sesane and midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja both joined newly-promoted Siwelele FC. Siyabonga Ndlozi and Gomolemo Khoto completed moves to Sekhukhune United. Those four transfers strengthen rival Betway Premiership clubs ahead of the new season.
Midfielder Sonwabo Khumalo and defender Blessing Ngiba both signed for Midlands, while Seth Green and experienced winger Bandile Shandu joined Durban City FC. Defender Thabiso Lebitso also secured a move to Stellenbosch FC as he begins a new chapter in the Betway Premiership.
OVERSEAS MOVES CONTINUE
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule also left Orlando Pirates after sealing a move to Zakho FC in Iraq. The transfer gives the midfielder another opportunity to revive his career outside South Africa after a short spell with the Buccaneers.
Striker Tshegofatso Mabasa remains without a club after leaving the Buccaneers, making him one of the most high-profile free agents on the domestic market. The experienced forward is expected to attract interest from several clubs before the transfer window closes.
