Orlando Pirates have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Belgian Pro League outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the transfer of star winger Relebohile Mofokeng.
The Buccaneers announced on Wednesday that negotiations between the two clubs have been successfully concluded, although the transfer remains subject to the player passing a medical examination and agreeing to personal terms with the Belgian club.

Medical and personal terms still outstanding
While the transfer fee and structure of the deal have been agreed, the transfer will only be completed once Mofokeng successfully undergoes his medical and finalises his contract with Union Saint-Gilloise.
“No further comment will be made at this time until the process between the player and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise has been fully concluded,” the club said in a statement.
Deal agreed before the World Cup
Orlando Pirates also revealed that an agreement in principle had been reached before the start of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026.
However, both clubs decided to postpone any public announcement to allow Mofokeng to focus on Bafana Bafana’s World Cup campaign.
According to the Buccaneers, the decision was made to avoid distracting the 21-year-old during South Africa’s historic run at the tournament.
“The two parties made the joint decision to hold off on any public announcement until after the tournament, wanting Mofokeng to focus fully on the World Cup with Bafana Bafana without the distraction of transfer talk, and to allow the national team’s historic run to take centre stage,” the statement read.
European move beckons
Should the remaining formalities be completed, the move will see one of South Africa’s brightest young talents begin the next chapter of his career in Belgium.
Mofokeng has enjoyed a rapid rise at Orlando Pirates, establishing himself as one of the Premier Soccer League’s standout performers while earning regular selection for Bafana Bafana.
The transfer represents another significant overseas move for a South African international and underlines the growing reputation of Orlando Pirates’ academy in producing players capable of competing in Europe.
