Orlando Pirates set for R100 million-plus windfall from Mofokeng and Appollis sales

Orlando Pirates are set to pocket more than R100 million from the expected transfers of Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis during the current transfer window.

The Buccaneers duo enhanced their reputations with impressive performances for Bafana Bafana at the FIFA World Cup, helping Hugo Broos’ side reach the Round of 32.

Both players (Appollis and Mofokeng) have attracted strong interest from clubs in Europe and are expected to complete their moves in the coming days.

According to Radar da Liga, Portuguese giants Porto have submitted an offer worth around €4 million (approximately R71 million) for Appollis. The report claims Pirates have accepted the proposal, with the winger expected to complete his move to Portugal before the start of the new season, as reported by Siseko Gwegwe.

Appollis and Mofokeng to leave Pirates

The 24-year-old only joined Pirates from Polokwane City in July 2025 in a deal reportedly worth R16 million, making the transfer a significant profit for the Soweto giants.

Meanwhile, former South African footballer and Soccerbeat owner Peter du Toit recently revealed that Mofokeng is on the verge of joining Belgian side Union SG.

“This is what we’ve heard. The first point I want to make is that nothing has been confirmed, but I can tell you it’s highly likely that Rele Mofokeng has signed for top Belgian club Union SG,” Du Toit said.

The 21-year-old playmaker is reportedly valued at around R68 million, meaning Pirates could receive a combined fee of approximately R139 million if both transfers are completed.

The departures of Mofokeng and Appollis would mark the end of an exciting chapter at Orlando Pirates, with both players playing key roles in the club’s recent success while also establishing themselves as two of South Africa’s brightest talents.
