Veteran Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Washington Arubi has ended his stint in South African football.
Arubi has returned home after ending his spell in South African football, bringing to a close another chapter in a career that has seen him establish himself as one of the country’s most experienced shot-stoppers.
The former Marumo Gallants goalkeeper’s return has sparked interest among football fans, with many wondering what prompted the move and what lies ahead for the Warriors veteran.
Arubi returns to Zimbabwe
The 39-year-old shot-stopper was unveiled by Zimbabwe’s CAPS United on Monday.
Speaking during Arubi’s unveiling, club president Farai Jere described his arrival as a key signing in the club’s quest to revive its Premier Soccer League title ambitions.
Jere said the club moved for the experienced goalkeeper after struggling to find consistency between the posts.
“The national team goalkeeper Washington Arubi has joined us to assist in the goalkeeping area that was giving us problems. We were almost losing hope because it was derailing our championship aspirations, which have now been rekindled. Arubi is now here and we all know his experience because we needed a leader in that position on the field of play,” Jere said.
He added that CAPS United remain determined to challenge for the league title despite their inconsistent run of results this season.
Arubi’s home return after South African spell
Arubi returns to Zimbabwe after spending several years in South Africa, where he most recently played for Marumo Gallants.
During his time in South Africa, Arubi turned out for AmaTuks, SuperSport United, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (formerly Tshakhuma FC), Stellenbosch FC and Marumo Gallants.
His lengthy PSL career saw him earn a reputation as a reliable and experienced goalkeeper while continuing to feature for Zimbabwe’s national team.
The former Dynamos and Highlanders goalkeeper built a reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s most dependable goalkeepers and has continued to feature for the Warriors despite playing abroad.
His move to CAPS United marks a return to the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League, where his leadership and experience are expected to strengthen the Harare club’s defence.
CAPS United continue rebuilding
Arubi becomes one of CAPS United’s latest additions as the club looks to bolster its squad for the remainder of the season.
Jere also revealed that another goalkeeper is expected to join the club, underlining the club’s determination to improve competition in the goalkeeping department as it pushes to reignite its title challenge.
