Former Manchester United star urges Relebohile Mofokeng to leave South Africa

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has received another strong endorsement to pursue a move abroad after former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune insisted the youngster must leave South African football.

The 21-year-old attacker has continued to attract widespread praise following his performances for Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with many believing he is ready for a bigger stage.

FORTUNE URGES RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG TO MOVE ABROAD

Speaking after watching Mofokeng in action, Fortune did not hide his admiration for the talented forward and said he believes South African football can no longer contain his ability.

“The only thing I wanted to say when I saw him is that he needs to leave South Africa,” Fortune said via Sporty TV.

“This talent is a waste, I’m sorry if I’m….I want that talent to go to the next level. Playing at that level against such a top team in the group and putting that performance, oh my goodness.

“He’s got to go, I’m not being the bad person here but he has to go.”

ORLANDO PIRATES STAR CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Mofokeng has developed into one of the standout players for Orlando Pirates over the past season recording 11 goals and 9 assists in 36 games across all competitions.

His displays on the international stage have only strengthened speculation that overseas clubs could make a move for the gifted attacker.

With Bafana Bafana making history by reaching the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mofokeng has played a key role in the national team’s success and further enhanced his growing reputation.

Fortune’s comments add to the increasing calls for the Orlando Pirates star to test himself in Europe or another top international league, with many believing the next step in his career should come away from South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Sharpville-born attacking midfielder is linked with French giants AS Monaco.
