Bafana Bafana made history on Wednesday (Thursday SA time) when they beat South Korea 1-0 in Monterrey to reach the Round of 32 at FIFA World Cup 2026.
Having lost to co-hosts Mexico 2-0 in their opener, Bafana Bafana bounced back to draw 1-1 against Czech Republic.

They went into the clash against South Korea in the knowledge that nothing less than a victory would be required to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament.
Thapelo Maseko’s 63rd-minute goal separated the two sides, giving Hugo Broos’ side their desired win – and their first appearance in the second round of a World Cup in their history.
Up next for Bafana Bafana will be a Round of 32 clash against another of the tournament’s co-hosts, Canada, on Sunday, 28 June.

Canada finished as runners-up in Group B after a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina, a 6-0 win over Qatar, and a 2-1 defeat to Switzerland.
Canada are currently 31st in the FIFA rankings.
Had one offered Bafana Bafana a Round of 32 clash against a team as lowly as Canada, coach Hugo Broos would surely have accepted with both hands.
Meanwhile, in Group A’s other match on Wednesday, Mexico thumped Czech Republic 3-0 to top the group.
Their Round of 32 opponents are yet to be determined.
