Kaizer Chiefs latest target: R20-million midfielder from PSL rivals

Kaizer Chiefs’ recruitment drive ahead of the 2026/27 season is officially underway.

The Soweto giants are said to be serious about signing a Stellenbosch FC attacker, with reports claiming Amakhosi tabled a bold players-and-cash offer in an attempt to lure him to Naturena.

Amakhosi have already acquired the services of Thabo Moloisane from the Winelands club.

Now, they are reportedly targeting another Stellies player in winger Langelihle Phili.

CHIEFS OFFER PLAYERS AND CASH FOR STELLIES SPEEDSTER

Kaizer Chiefs reportedly offered Ashley du Preez, George Matlou and a hefty sum of money in an attempt to lure the Stellenbosch attacker to Naturena.

“Amakhosi have gone to considerable lengths to secure the 21-year-old, tabling an offer that included Ashley du Preez, George Matlou, and a substantial cash sum. However, the Winelands outfit has remained unmoved,” FarPost reported.

The exact figure has not been disclosed.

Unfortunately for Amakhosi fans, Stellenbosch FC did not accept the offer.

Kaizer Chiefs subsequently confirmed that they will not be renewing Matlou’s contract when it expires at the end of June.

AMAKHOSI SQUAD REVAMP UNDERWAY

Moloisane is Amakhosi’s first official signing of the new season.

Coincidentally, he was signed from Stellenbosch FC – the same club Phili currently plays for.

Given how serious Kaizer Chiefs’ initial offer was, it would not be surprising if they return with an improved bid.

Whether that’s through a bigger cash offer or another revised package, remains to be seen.

“Strengthening the left wing is among the club’s priorities, with Phili viewed as an ideal fit,” they added.

Meanwhile, Matlou has become Kaizer Chiefs’ second confirmed departure of the off-season and the first under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

He follows Aden McCarthy out of Naturena, with the talented youngster joining Sabah FK in Azerbaijan who have qualified for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.

The Kaizer Chiefs academy product is set to play in football’s biggest club competition in Europe next season.

DO YOU THINK KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD LAUNCH A NEW AND IMPROVED OFFER TO STELLIES FOR PHILI?
