Queiroz’s Ghana Hold England – iDiski Times

England and Ghana could not be separated in their second match in group L at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as they played to a goalless draw at the Boston Stadium on Tuesday.

The result means the Three Lions remain at the top of pool log equal on four points with the Black Stars behind them, however the former with a better goal difference after two matches.

With Croatia still to face Panama in the other group encounter on Wednesday morning, the group is still open in terms of qualification to the Round of 32.

Meanwhile the first half was characterised by missed half chances and non capitalisation of set-pieces for England who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession. Their first real chance at goal came in the 12th minute when they won set-piece.

Declan Rice hit the ball hard and it went over the bar. A minute earlier a good combination play involving Triston Madueke and Reece James looking to set-up Anthony Gordon was interrupted by Ghana defenders. Reece had his tame effort landing safely in Benjamin Asare’s hands in the 20th minute.

The game went into the break deadlocked and both sides returned for the second half unchanged. It was Ghana who had an attempt at goal four minutes into the stanza with Jerome Opoku finding Marvin Senaya in the box but latter’s shot was deflected by the English defense.

Thomas Tuchel’s men came close to breaking the deadlock at the hour mark after they won a free-kick. Rice swung the ball into the box, Elliot Anderson jumped the highest however the Ghanaian defense proved solid and they deflected the ball out.

There was another opportunity for England to take the lead eight minutes later from their captain Harry Kane but he took a tame shot, easy for Asare to save after Nico O’Reilly interrupted a Ghana attack.

Carlos Queiroz ‘s men had a glorious opportunity to score in the 79th minute through Price Adu after he was set up by Issahaku Fatawu but the former’s effort was blocked with Senaya pouncing on the rebound but the flag went up.

England were wasteful in the dying minutes if the game first Bukayo Saka’s shot saved by Asare and later O’Reilly hitting the wood work and Kane sending the rebound over the bar.

The result saw Ghana keep back-to-back clean sheets, as the door to the knockout stages seems wide open.
