Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Thembinkosi Biyela has urged his former side to bring in Arthur Zwane as an assistant coach next season.
This comes after Amakhosi announced Fernando Da Cruz as their new head coach this week. He will work alongside his assistant Mahmoud Abbas as they look to improve Chiefs.
Biyela feels Zwane would be a perfect second assistant and his knowledge of the club and players could help the coaches.
Zwane urged to return to Kaizer Chiefs
“At Chiefs, you need someone who knows the culture of the team, someone who has experienced the pressure that comes with being the club’s player,” Biyela told KickOff.
“Doing it alone without knowing the culture of the team, it’s going to be difficult,” he added.
“They need to get him somebody who is familiar with South African football and knows the culture of the team. Only then we can go far.”
Zwane coached Kaizer Chiefs during the 2023/24 season but was sacked after failing to win a single trophy although some fans felt his sacking was a mistake.
Biyela, though feels “10111” is the perfect person to assist Da Cruz with both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns having a local assistants who understand South African players and football culture.
“Don’t worry about the belief that says local coaches are backstabbers; you just need to trust your technical staff as a coach.
“Mamelodi Sundowns they’ve got Steve Komphela, Orlando Pirates they’ve got Mandla Ncikazi even though they have foreigners as head coaches,” he said.
“The new head coach need to understand South African players are unique.
“So you need an assistant the players will relate to, and that assistant should be none other than the current AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane. Chiefs should just pay Zwane whatever needs to be paid to get him and bring him to Naturena,” he adds
Zwane is currently the head coach of AmaZulu and it is highly unlikely that he will return to Kaizer Chiefs for an assistant role.
