‘Why not Pitso?’ Kaizer Chiefs supporters react to Da Cruz hiring
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Kaizer Chiefs supporters have expressed mixed reactions following the appointment of Fernando Da Cruz as the club’s new head coach.

The French-Portuguese tactician was unveiled by Amakhosi on Wednesday evening, taking over from co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

In a statement confirming the appointment, Chiefs said:

“Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the appointment of Fernando Da Cruz as Head Coach.

“He has signed a two-year contract with a one-year option, effective 1 July 2026. Born in France, Da Cruz comes highly qualified with a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching certification in football.”

Da Cruz is no stranger to Naturena. He spent time with the club during a pre-season camp two years ago before joining the Moroccan Football Federation, where he served as Technical Director until the end of June.

The 53-year-old will officially begin his duties on July 1 as Chiefs look to build on last season’s progress.

Da Cruz to take over as Kaizer Chiefs coach next month

His announcement sparked a variety of reactions from supporters on social media, with some welcoming the appointment while others questioned the club’s decision, believing former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane would have been a better choice.

@jtamz2 wrote: “Welcome Coach Da Cruz to the mighty Khosi. We wish you well as you build on the work done by the co-coaches.”

@Qabzo added: “Welcome back to the Khosi Nation, Coach Da Cruz. We must cruise nicely next season.”

Others were less convinced and felt Da Cruz won’t add much to Kaizer Chiefs.

@LeboThamage commented: “We never learn. Our problem is not the coaches, our management is the problem. How long are we going to keep changing coaches instead of fixing the real issue?”

@kwaNompondwana wrote: “I wonder if it means the players will be listening to the same tactics one more time, given the fact that he was working under Nabi. Nonetheless, welcome again Mr Da Cruz. Hopefully you’re bringing something different — winning.”

Kaizer Chiefs appoint Da Cruz but some fans question?

Meanwhile, @Musojnr questioned Da Cruz’s credentials, posting: “What has he won as a head coach? This plumber? I’ll listen on the radio.”

@EdwinMokhosi expressed his disappointment, saying: “I love this team with all my heart, but I think it’s time to pack my bags. You have Pitso Mosimane, a proven winner, and you go for this one who came with Nabi and left for greener pastures. We are not ready to be the best in Africa.”

Will Da Cruz bring joy to Naturena?
