Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of appointing a new head coach following the departure of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
The duo left Amakhosi after just one season in charge, having guided the club to a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership.
According to reports, French-Portuguese tactician Fernando Da Cruz has signed a two-year contract with the Soweto giants and is expected to take over ahead of the new campaign.
Da Cruz is no stranger to the Chiefs setup, having previously worked as an assistant coach under Nasreddine Nabi before joining the Moroccan national team.
His familiarity with the club could prove beneficial as Amakhosi look to build on last season’s progress.
Kaizer Chiefs sign Da Cruz?
Other coaches linked with the vacant position included former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Pitso Mosimane and ex-Golden Arrows and Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
With a new coach expected to take charge, Chiefs are also likely to strengthen their squad during the transfer window.
One player who could be on their radar is former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa. The 29-year-old forward is currently a free agent after leaving the Buccaneers and has attracted interest from Moroccan side Maghreb Fez, who are reportedly prepared to offer him a two-year contract.
Should Kaizer Chiefs decide to pursue the services of the striker known as “Sniper”, they may have to match a lucrative salary package to fend off overseas competition.
Meanwhile, defender Thabo Moloisane is reportedly close to joining Amakhosi.
The former Stellenbosch FC centre-back is available as a free agent, with reports suggesting that his move to Naturena could be finalised once Aden McCarthy completes his anticipated transfer abroad.
Kaizer Chiefs are yet to announce any new signings or any departures except that of Aden McCarthy.
