Kaizer Chiefs latest target: R20-million midfielder from PSL rivals
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Kaizer Chiefs’ latest PSL transfer target has reportedly been identified, with the club said to be monitoring a highly-rated midfielder from one of their domestic rivals.

As always, Kaizer Chiefs are expected to make several changes to their squad ahead of the new season.

Their latest reported target is talented Stellenbosch FC midfielder, Langelihle Phili.

KAIZER CHIEFS HAVE THEIR EYES ON STELLIES MIDFIELDER

The club has already confirmed the departure of talented young defender Aden McCarthy who has secured a move to Europe next season to Azerbaijan Premier League Champions, Sabah, where he is set to feature in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Amakhosi have also completed the signing of Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC.

Should those reports prove accurate, an official announcement is expected in due course.

Now, attention has shifted to another Stellies player.

According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs are among several clubs interested in signing highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder Langelihle Phili.

“Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly among several clubs showing interest in Stellenbosch FC’s talented midfielder, Langelihle Phili, but they may face stiff competition from European teams for his signature,” Soccer Laduma reported.

The reported interest highlights Phili’s growing reputation following a series of impressive performances for the Cape Winelands outfit.

However, Kaizer Chiefs could face a strong challenge in securing his signature.

European clubs are also believed to be monitoring the midfielder, although the identities of those interested teams have not yet been disclosed.

Should concrete offers arrive from abroad, Amakhosi may find themselves battling more than just rival PSL clubs.

The lure of European football, improved earning potential and the opportunity to test himself at a higher level could ultimately prove difficult for Phili to ignore.

That said, Kaizer Chiefs remain one of South Africa’s biggest institutions and still possess the pulling power to attract some of the country’s brightest young talents.

Phili is valued at almost R20 million, according to the latest player values on Transfermarkt.

MORE EXITS EXPECTED AT NATURENA

Several Kaizer Chiefs players could follow McCarthy out of Naturena in the coming weeks.

Fiacre Ntwari, Happy Mashiane and Gastón Sirino have all been linked with potential departures.

Ntwari fell down the pecking order during the 2024/25 campaign after former coach Nasreddine Nabi opted to hand Brandon Petersen an extended run in goal.

Thereafter, his situation did not improve following the arrival of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

Petersen was subsequently appointed club captain, while Ntwari remained on the fringes and struggled for game time.

Consequently, an exit appears increasingly likely.

Also, Mashiane’s future has also been the subject of speculation for several transfer windows. Uncertainty continues to surround his long-term prospects at Naturena.

As a result, this could finally be the window in which the defender moves on.

Meanwhile, several reports have claimed that Kaizer Chiefs are prepared to part ways with Sirino as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign.

SHOULD KAIZER CHIEFS SIGN PHILI FROM STELLENBOSCH FC, OR IS THEIR MIDFIELD ALREADY STRONG ENOUGH?
