Orlando Pirates are set to part ways with defender Thabiso Lebitso after two years.
The talented right-back joined the Buccaneers from Chippa United in January 2024. Upon arrival, the 28-year-old established himself in the team and became a fan favourite after scoring a memorable goal against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.
Despite a promising start, Lebitso suffered injuries at Orlando Pirates, which affected his game time.
In the two and a half years he’s been at Pirates, the former Chippa United wingback has played less than 25 matches.
Last season, he featured 14 times across all competitions; however, an injury towards the end of 2025 saw him lose out his place in the team.
On Tuesday, SABC reported that Stellenbosch FC were in advanced talks over the signing of Lebitso.

“SABC Sport understands Stellenbosch are now in advanced talks with the Buccaneers over a move for the versatile defender ahead of the 2026/27 season,” the publication wrote.
“Lebitso arrives with considerable topflight experience, having made close to 100 appearances for Chippa United before joining Pirates, where he has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons.
While negotiations are ongoing, the public broadcaster can confirm that the player is edging closer to an exit from the Soweto giants.”
Orlando Pirates are also set to release another right back Bandile Shandu, in the coming weeks. With both Shandu and Lebitso set to depart, it can make way for Bafana Bafana and Polokwane right back Thabang Matuludi, who has been linked with the Buccaneers.
Sipho Mbule is also believed to be a free agent after the club opted not to renew his deal.
