Combined, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns earned R120 million after winning the Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League, respectively, this season.
Orlando Pirates ended a 14-year weight to conquer the PSL when they won the 2025/26 Betway Premiership this past weekend.
Thereafter, Mamelodi Sundowns went on to end a decade wait to conquer Africa when they were crowned CAF Champions League winners on Sunday evening.
Both truimphs resulted in millions earned for the Buccaneers and The Brazilians.
ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE R20 MILLION IN PRIZE MONEY
Orlando Pirates brought the Betway Premiership title back to Soweto – more specifically, into their trophy cabinet at Mayfair.
It was a very long journey to get there – 14 years to be exact. The last Bucs side to conquer the PSL won the trophy back in the 2011/12 season.
However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
For Orlando Pirates supporters and players alike, heartbreak and frustration turned into jubilation and euphoria this past weekend.
The Bucs are on top of South African football now.
Also, they will be smiling all the way to the bank following their historic truimph.
As reported on The South African, Orlando Pirates earned R20 million in prize money for winning the 2025/26 Betway Premiership.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS MAKE MEGA MONEY AFTER CONQUERING AFRICA
As big as Orlando Pirates prize money seemed, it pales in comparison to what Mamelodi Sundowns took home in prize money for winning the CAF Champions League.
The Brazilians took home $6 million for conquering Africa.
This equates to a staggering total of R98 million for Ronwen Williams and his Mamelodi Sundown team-mates.
It turns out, the decade long wait to be crowned kings of African club football was well worth the wait.
