‘He’s having the best time of his life’: Chiefs legend defends Ndlovu

Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has defended midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu following criticism over his recent tackles.

The debate intensified after Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido suffered a fractured collarbone during a challenge involving Ndlovu in Wednesday’s 1-1 Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Ndlovu had already come under scrutiny for his aggressive approach during Chiefs’ encounter with Orlando Pirates last month, and once again found himself at the centre of attention against Sundowns.

The Chiefs midfielder made several tough challenges during the match and received a yellow card before being substituted by the Amakhosi coaching staff.

Speaking on Soccerbeat, Baloyi insisted that while Ndlovu plays with intensity, he should not be labelled a dirty player.

“In the last two games, Ndlovu reminded me of Katsande. He was lucky to still be on the field,” said Baloyi.

Chiefs legend praise Ndlovu

“When I look at the tackle where he got the yellow card, a lot of times people think he is playing dirty, but that one was unfortunate. He was going for the ball and unfortunately stretched his leg and injured the player.

“Besides that, he is beginning to enjoy the best time of his life at Chiefs if you look at his performances.”

Baloyi added that Chiefs have lacked a combative midfielder for several years and believes Ndlovu is bringing back qualities once associated with club greats such as Tinashe Nengomasha and Willard Katsande.

“Chiefs have always had players like Tinashe Nengomasha and Willard Katsande, and that is what has been missing in the team. He is growing in confidence with every game,” added the former Amakhosi goalkeeper.

Is Ndlovu a dirty player?
