Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are no longer moving at the same pace on the continent. The latest CAF rankings has made that gap clear.
According to the prominent African reporter Micky Jnr, Sundowns have climbed to number one in Africa, while Pirates sit 16th while Chiefs lurk down in 41st place.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS TAKE THEIR PLACE AT THE TOP
Mamelodi Sundowns sitting at number one is not a surprise anymore. Years of strong performances in the Betway Premiership, combined with regular deep runs in CAF competitions, have finally pushed them ahead of the traditional North African heavyweights.

It’s not just about winning games anymore, it’s about maintaining a standard across seasons. That’s where Sundowns have separated themselves.
ORLANDO PIRATES BUILDING SOMETHING AGAIN
Orlando Pirates, ranked 16th, are not yet in that top bracket, but the signs are there. Their return to CAF competitions and strong domestic form have started to show in the rankings.
For a club with their history, being back in the conversation matters just as much as the position itself.
KAIZER CHIEFS FACE A REALITY CHECK
Kaizer Chiefs, sitting down in 41st place, are feeling the effects of being away from CAF football for too long.
Without consistent participation on the continent, it becomes difficult to build ranking points, and that gap is now visible. There may be progress domestically, but these rankings show that the real test is still ahead.
