FCSB and Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana has declined to undergo surgery on his knee.
The 28-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs star was injured in January and was told to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
FCSB this week revealed that Ngezana declined to undergo surgery. If the lanky defender goes under the knife, he will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Bafana.
The ex-Amakhosi star was left out of Bafana’s friendlies against Panama last month, with Ime Okon taking his place
Ngezana is looking to regain his spot in the national team and on Monday, he featured for FCSB in what was his first showing since January.
His coach Mirel Radoi said the defender would be called upon to play some matches despite needing surgury on his knee.
“There will be matches in which we will call on him. We had a discussion, and I explained to him that he needs to be patient,” Mirel Radoi said as per Soccer Laduma.
“There are still some things that we need to fix on the physical side. It was a long period during which he trained separately.
“Let’s not try to put some players in a situation where we give them minutes and then they get injured.”
Ngezana lacking game time
Ngezana has spent three years in Romania since his big move from Kaizer Chiefs. At the national level, he has featured 14 times for Bafana Bafana and was in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
It remains to be seen if the ex-Chiefs defender will make the final World Cup squad next month.
