Former Orlando Pirates striker Phumudzo Manenzhe has praised Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva.
The 29-year-old Guinea-Bissau striker has scored seven goals in 23 matches for Amakhosi across all competitions in his first season with the Soweto giants.
He and Glody Lilepo are the club’s leading goalscorers this season having netted more than 15 goals between them.
With Chiefs having struggled for goals for much of the season, Silva has delivered in a lot of games especially in his first three months at Naturena.
Manenzhe is a big fan of the Amakhosi number nine and explained just why.
“That’s how we define a number nine. A number nine player, an out-and-out striker. You need that wall when you have got enterprising and dynamic midfielders like that,” he said as per KickOff.
“You want that wall where you will be able to play the ball, and he just lays it off and gets out of the way. You can see [Siphesihle] Ndlovu in that eighth role. The ability to make that late run into the box and the ability of Flavio, and then the goal is scored,” he added.
“Just that layoff. He [Silva] lays it off and gets out of the way so that Ndlovu can have that toe-poke and well-taken goal,” said the former Orlando Pirates star.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kenny Niemach felt Amakhosi strikers were not scoring enough going. He felt the midfielders at the club needed to play according to the strength of their strikers.

“They are not doing that at the moment. The Chiefs strikers are not scoring because the midfielders and wingers don’t give the strikers the ball according to their strengths.
“Give a striker the ball according to what he is good at. Otherwise, you’re going to make him look poor. So all it needs is a slight adjustment, but that should come from the coaching staff at Chiefs,” he concluded.
Flavio Silva scored against TS Galaxy after struggling recently, including a disappointing match against Orlando Pirates in February, where he faced boos from the crowd.
