The Buccaneers started well and looked dangerous early on. Relebohile Mofokeng set up Kamogelo Selebelele, but Ian Otieno made a good save to deny him.
But Richards Bay struck first in the 11th minute. Thulani Gumede reacted quickly in the box and volleyed home after a header from Simphiwe Mcineka to make it 1-0.
Orlando Pirates kept pushing and controlled possession. Thalente Mbatha tried a shot from distance, but Otieno saved it.

In the 34th minute, Sipho Chaine made a strong save to stop Sanele Barns from a free-kick. Shortly after, Yanela Mbuthuma missed a good chance for Pirates, heading straight at the keeper.
Before halftime, Pirates came close again through Oswin Appollis, but he couldn’t finish. Orlando Pirates finally equalised in the 52nd minute. Appollis was left unmarked and finished well to make it 1-1.
But the lead didn’t last long. In the 59th minute, Richards Bay went ahead again when Lindokuhle Zikhali scored after a good team move. Orlando Pirates tried to fight back and made changes, but Richards Bay stayed solid at the back and held on for the win.
