Ex-Orlando Pirates players on track to play for Bafana at FIFA World Cup 2026

Orlando Pirates had a total of six players in the most recent 23-man Bafana Bafana squad that faced Panama in two international friendlies.

Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi, Thalente Mbatha, Evidence Makgopa and Nkosinathi Sibisi were all part of the squad that drew one and lost one of the clashes in Durban and Cape Town.

However, there are a couple more players who previously played for the Bucs who are also in the national set-up.

These ex-Orlando Pirates stars have a high probability of representing South Africa at FIFA World Cup 2026.

EX-BUCS DEFENDER IN BAFANA BAFANA MIX

Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Chicago Fire, USA) and Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Minnesota United, USA) are two names well known by Orlando Pirates supporters.

Mbokazi is one of the more recent players to have leaft Mayfair. He joined Chicago Fire earlier this year after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

While a deal was agreed in principle before then, he could only join the USA-based club after completing his national duty with Bafana Bafana at AFCON 2025.

He is now playing in the same league as the legendary Lionel Messi.

The ex-Orlando Pirates defender is flourishing in the MLS and is also a regular part of the Bafana Bafana squad.

Therefore, he is very likely to be in coach Hugo Broos’ final squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.

EX-ORLANDO PIRATES ATTACKER POISED TO PLAY FOR SA AT THE FIFA WORLD CUP

Similarly, ex-Bucs attacker Hlongwane is a regular part of the Bafana Bafana setup.

His speed out wide, powerful runs and quality finishing make him a strong option for the national team.

He is widely expected to be part of the squad, as he has been, come football’s greatest showpiece to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, starting on 11 June.

DO YOU THINK MBOKAZI AND HLONGWANE SHOULD PLAY FOR BAFANA BAFANA AT FIFA WORLD CUP 2026?
