With Kaizer Chiefs still lacking a consistent playmaker, former coach Sergio Dos Santos believes the solution could be Luas Ribeiro Costa, a player who already showed his quality in the PSL with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ribeiro is currently in Spain with Cultural Leonesa, but his exit from Sundowns came with controversy and legal complications, leaving the door slightly open for a return to South Africa.
KAIZER CHIEFS NEED A LEADER IN MIDFIELD
Amakhosi have shown before that they are willing to spend on the right player, especially when it comes to marquee signings.
According to Dos Santos, Ribeiro fits exactly what the team is missing right now, leadership, quality, and presence.
“Ribeiro is an exceptional player and [would be] a valuable addition for Amakhosi at this time. He has the ability to impact any team in South Africa in a big way,” he said.
FORMER COACH MAKES STRONG CASE
“If he is available and can be brought back to South Africa, I would strongly recommend that Chiefs get him. We all saw Ribeiro’s influence during his tenure at Sundowns. He has both skill and situational awareness on and off the field.

“He understands the game thoroughly and is the type of player who can motivate others.” Dos Santos believes Chiefs are currently missing that one player who can take responsibility in big moments.
“At 26, Ribeiro remains young and is a promising investment. His playing style has the potential to uplift younger players at Chiefs.”
COMPARISON WITH PIRATES STAR
“Kaizer Chiefs require a creative playmaker, someone willing to give that extra effort. Ribeiro could serve as a key figure for Chiefs, similar to [Relebohile] Mofokeng’s role at Pirates.
“Currently, the club lacks that presence. Ribeiro can be for Chiefs what Mofokeng is for Pirates. Signing Ribeiro would be a strategic and beneficial decision.”
It’s a bold suggestion, but one that speaks directly to Chiefs’ biggest weakness.
