When is the next Chiefs league match? Caf schedule wreaks havoc
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap looks at the future of flop striker Khanyisa Mayo and some choice comments from Benni McCarthy.

Benni McCarthy has his say on Kaizer Chiefs

Bafana legend and current Kenya head coach Benni McCarthy knows a thing or two about football. Now, he’s weighed in on what might be going awry at Chiefs.

“Everybody should be on the same page of wanting to achieve something,” McCarthy said on SuperSport TV via AfrikFoot.com.

“Management is doing what they need to do. Then the technical team, coaches and support staff have to play their part.

“When I see from outside, there is a little bit of an imbalance between the technical team, coaches and the players because the players don’t play like they play for Kaizer Chiefs, the badge and legends that got the team here,” the Bafana legend added.

“There is no cohesion, not coordinated properly, but I think once the technical team get on the same page, they can because they have damn good players.

“I watched the Richards Bay game. I watched Stellenbosch and the [Soweto] Derby. Those players think they do not belong there, don’t deserve to play for Chiefs and when you believe that, no matter what you do, it will not happen. You have to believe you are good enough. You are at Chiefs for a reason.”

Mayo intends to stay on at Kaizer Chiefs despite barren spell

Khanyisa Mayo joined Chiefs on a season-long loan from Belouizdad after struggling to make an impact in Algeria. He only scored six goals and made one assist in 41 outings. The 27-year-old’s loan agreement with Chiefs includes an option to buy the player when his loan deal expires in June. The player sounds motivated to prove his worth in South Africa, despite only scoring a single goal for Chiefs. That goal was on debut, all the way back in November. Via Farpost:

“I can’t say [being on loan] is putting me under pressure. The pressure is always there; I was born into a family of pressure,” said Mayo, the son of the legendary Patrick Mayo.

“When you represent an institution like Kaizer Chiefs, expectations are a constant, so I don’t think it’s something I can’t handle. As the season progresses and I get my opportunity, I intend to seize it and prove that I belong here permanently.”
