Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap looks at a crippling injury list and doubts over the long-term future of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Kaizer Chiefs hit hard by injuries before Durban City test
Given Msimango, Mfundo Vilakazi, Inácio Miguel, Etiosa Ighodaro and Brandon Petersen are all out of Sunday’s match with Durban City at FNB Stadium. Now, according to reports, Nkanyiso Shinga and George Matlou will play no further part this season. To add insult to injury, Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are suspended for the upcoming clash with Pitso Dladla’s side.
Ngcobo’s lack of durability raises concerns
26-year-old attacking midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo hasn’t managed more than 16 appearances in any of his last five Betway Premiership campaigns. He’s only managed 34 in the last three, counting 2025-26. It’s not a great tally and points to chronic injury and inconsistency these issues caused some fans to call for his sale.

Meanwhile, although a push for the title is out of the question, Chiefs can still make a serious play for the top three, which would represent continental football next season. The Glamour Boys can also have a major say as to who will be the eventual champions, as they face Sundowns and Pirates. Chiefs will need to turn around their current poor run of form to climb the table; they’ve lost four domestic matches on the bounce. Here’s what’s still to come:
