Mabena Scores Back-To-Back For Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns hammered AmaZulu in the DStv Diski Challenge to level leaders Orlando Pirates on top of the log.

Sundowns ran riot against Usuthu with the league’s leading goalscorer Bennet Mokoena adding a first-half brace, scoring in the 25th and 38th minute.

Goals by Ntokozo Siquba and Siyabonga Mabena secured Sundowns a four-goal cushion at the break, while Kutlwano Letlhaku added the fifth after 77 minutes.

Meanwhile, leaders Pirats suffered their third defeat of the season, going down 2-1 to Golden Arrows at the UJ Sport Complex, despite first team head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou in the stands.

Molemo Seemela put the visitors in front after 15 minutes. Pirates replied with several strong attacks but the Arrows defence held firm and they carried their slender lead into the break.

Pirates were eventually rewarded when 17-year-old Seth Green found the equalizer after 50 minutes. However, with the Buccaneers trying to push a winner, they suffered a late blow when struck late in stoppage time to restore their lead.

Despite the defeat, Pirates stayed ahead of Sundowns by virtue of goal difference, with both now sitting on 48 points. The Buccaneers, though, need to sort out their form, having won just one of their last four matches.

Other Saturday results:

  • TS Galaxy 2-0 Magesi
  • Chippa United 0-4 Sekhukhune United
  • Richards Bay 1-1 Stellenbosch
